total.alkalinity

Total alkalinity is the measure of the water's ability to resist pH change. If the total alkalinity is low the pH will fluctuate widely and be difficult to maintain.

When total alkalinity is high the pH can become difficult to move and the water can be scale forming. For pool water two different levels of total alkalinity are recommended depending on the pool finish:

Tiled/Marbline/Concrete Pool = 80 - 125mg/l (ppm)

Liner/Fibreglass/Painted Pool = 125 - 150mg/l (ppm)

BioGuard Balance Pak 100 is used to raise total alkalinity to within the ideal range, which will make the pH easier to maintain, reducing the amount of time you have to spend treating your pool. Raising the total alkalinity to the correct level will also reduce the risk of staining and help protect the pool finish and support equipment from corrosion.

If the total alkalinity is above the recommended range it should be lowered using BioGuard Lo 'n' Slo to prevent scale deposits and a high acid demand.

To calculate the amount of Balance Pak 100 or Lo ‘n’ Slo you need to correct the total alkalinity level. Why not use our interactive Ideal Level Table?
